DocMan Business Continuity...
Introducing 'Docman BC', the Business Continuity extension for General Practice.
Designed to underpin your practices' existing procedures in the event of no or limited clinical data access, Docman BC provides access to Patient summary, Documents and Appointments data in one convenient browser-style interface.
How it works:
During the existing overnight patient synchronisation routine, clinical and appointment data is synchronised into the Docman database which in turn is replicated along with all Docman documents to a secure Business Continuity device - typically a 'Network Attached Storage' (NAS) device located somewhere on your network.
Depending on data size, the initial 'load phase' is scheduled to occur over a number of days so that there is no performance impact as the BC data repository is built. Once fully up-to-date, daily incremental synchronisation ensures only new and modified data is copied to the BC data repository.
Once BC is enabled, all Docman desktops gain an extra icon for the BC Viewer application. Since it shares the same security information as Docman, once logged in, users have appropriate access to documents and data. In addition, reception staff have access to appointment lists in an easy to read diary format.
Docman BC is fully integrated into Docman which allows users to view BC data from within the main application, assuming this is still available whilst the clinical server is not accessible. If not, users simply access BC via the desktop icon.
Primary Benefits of Docman BC:
- Supports practices' Business Continuity procedures for non-interrupted access to Clinical data
- Provides access to Patient summary, Appointment Lists and Documents from a single point of access
- Automated background process that requires no user interaction
- Lightweight application displays data in html form for fast viewing
Other features of Docman BC:
- BC data available anytime not just during a "BC event" providing an alternative to switching to clinical system
- No complicated setup or training required
- Updated as part of Docman update mechanism
- Uses Docman security profiles so no additional user or password configuration required
- Licensing is based on Docman workstation licensing so all Docman workstations have BC access by default
Docman BC is initially available for users of the GPASS clinical system in Scotland. All other major clinical systems will be supported shortly.
